In 2009 I volunteered to do photography in Attiwapiskat, a Cree first nation community in northern Ontario Canada.
I photographed in a grade seven class where we wanted to give hope to the students and encourage them to believe that you could follow thier dreams.
We photographed each student holding a sign with a statement of what they dreamed for the future.
Well one of the student put on thier sign that she wanted to be a helicopter pilot.
A big dream seeing as she lived over a 1000 klm north of Toronto on a first nations reserve.
Her image was part of a show that we did at First Canadian Place in Toronto, where many people saw her portrait with her sign, and people pledged to help her to reach her dream.
Well she did it!
The power of having a dream and acting on it.
